Pressure

Complexities of red agate formations reflect the complex structure of existing in it self. Although much younger, the human character is formed much like agates through societal pressures, cultural pressures, challenges and time. Forming depth and layers to ones spirit and emotional foundations. Familial strengths as well as weaknesses filter through our being indiscriminately. The use of colour, hue and intensity paired with the patterns, striations and contours to convey a sense of thought, emotion or a situation.

Inspired by Japanese "kintsugi" golden joinery, geology and psychology.

Our human experience is a complex and delicate tapestry like veins through mineral rock, moulded and reshaped by pressures external to ourselves. At some point these are shattered, broken in need of healing. Like the Kintsugi I wish to bring attention to the fractures and breaks, to celebrate the healing and repair.

even the strongest formations fracture and split under pressure. As strong as our minds are we too fracture under stress. The choice to bring attention and celebrate these imperfection and the healing process is the focus. Though never the same they are made new and unique.
